Living Dreams is a Japan-based NPO working to support children living in children’s homes in the Tokyo area. Living Dreams is Smile Kids Japan’s partner NPO on the Tohoku Kids’ Project.

Foreign Volunteers Japan was created to gather willing foreigners, who wish to do volunteer work at an appropriate time and when required in the wake of the disaster.

FBC is working with Second Harvest Japan to ensure that the food and supplies purchased on its website site are delivered to the people who need them the most with minimum being spent on over head charges such as shipping.

The road to recovery will be long and FBC wants to join with Second Harvest, and all of its customers in giving what help they can.

Several foreign English teachers have joined forces with MEESA to create the Teachers For Japan initiative.  All of these teachers have lived in Miyagi for more than three years, and remain there despite the destruction and continued danger.

MEESA, a long-standing Non-profit Organization, is working together with these teachers, and other teachers around the world, to effect immediate, local disaster relief efforts in Miyagi Prefecture.  As MEESA’s mission centers on education, and that focus is shared by the foreign teachers who have established the Teachers For Japan initiative, they have chosen to make rebuilding education in Miyagi prefecture their primary cause.

“5toSurvive: Running for Japan” is a charitable event, which aims to raise money for those affected by the earthquake and tsunami of March 11th. The idea is to run a short distance, 5km, and get your friends and family to sponsor you to do it. Events have been set up all over the globe and it’s easy enough to set one up yourself.  Please consider organising a run on March 11, 2012!

A benefit concert featuring the Jammers, XOVA and Frank McComb was held on May 22, 2011 at the Hideaway in Streatham, London. All funds from a charity auction and from the evening  was donated to Living Dreams and Smile Kids Japan on their Tohoku Kids’ Project. Thank you for show yoingur support for a great cause!

Kashi No Ki Kenyu Kai, one of the leading kendo dojos in the UK, held a ’1000 suburi’ charity event on May 22, 2011 to raise money for the children orphaned by the recent earthquake in Japan and a special ebay auction of items donated by famous Japanese sensei such as Ozawa, Sumi, Chiba and Tashiro.

The Fukui JET group helped set up the first visit for Smile Kids Japan and have supported us ever since. Having set up a volunteer position on their board who runs local visits are a great model for volunteering for all JET groups nationwide.

Five fantastic community choirs in Brisbane, Australia held a concert to support the Tohoku Kids’ Project.

Through their online service Ninja Tools, collected over 70,000 books in their manga donation campaign and supplied our effort to distribute children’s books and manga to Tohoku orphanages.

“Japan is all about calories. You count them in your food, your beer and when you sing karaoke. On July 21st, I will be counting my calories all the way to 20 000. I will cycle from my apartment in Fukui all the way to Kagoshima. That’s roughly 1000 km in the sultry Japanese summer and I have given myself a soft goal of one week.
