Raising Awareness
The Smile Kids Japan project is fantastic, even if we do say so ourselves. Raising awareness will help you recruit volunteers and raise some money. In Fukui, the project is also a great way to show the Japanese community the work that the JETs do – it’s always nice to earn some brownie points!
- Write to your local newspaper. This is a simple, easy way to start getting the word out about what you’re doing.
- Get the word out at local events in your community. Keep an eye out for things like International Festivals – this is a good way to let the community know what you’re doing at a grass roots level.
- Use this poster (322KB Word Document) to explain about the programme and to ask for donations of toys and clothes from your friends, teachers and the people in your workplace. The poster is a model and needs to be altered for your prefecture and group. The text in red will need to be altered. Put up posters everywhere, from the staff room to the community centre, so that word can spread of the great work you’re doing.
Here are three posters that you can use to help raise awareness of who we are and what we do…
